Islandia-based CA Inc. said Wednesday it is buying the privately held cloud computing provider 3Tera Inc.
CA described the acquired company as a pioneer in cloud computing and said its software "offers an innovative solution for building cloud services and deploying complex enterprise-class applications to public and private clouds using an intuitive graphical user interface."
Cloud computing refers to flexible plans allowing companies to use - and pay for - variable amounts of data storage, software and other resources over the Internet. It can help reduce overall costs for software and hardware.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. 3Tera is based in Aliso Viejo, in Southern California.
The 3Tera buy comes after CA's other purchases of Cassatt, NetQoS and Oblicore, CA pointed out, saying it "continues to aggressively expand its portfolio of solutions to manage cloud computing as part of an integrated information technology management program."
3Tera's existing customers include more than 80 enterprises and service providers globally, who in turn supply technology to thousands of users, CA said.
