Canon U.S.A. says its charitable Forest Program has planted more than 38,000 trees so far this year.

This brings the program to a total of more than 85,000 trees planted in the U.S. since 2008, the Lake Success based company said.

The tree-planting initiative's recent achievement is due to Canon's agreement to plant one tree for every five Canon Generation Green Products registered on the Canon U.S.A. website.

"The products that are part of Canon's Generation Green Program feature paper-saving technology and energy-saving measures, as well as minimal product packaging, all contributing to the overall sustainability of the environment," Canon said in a news release.
