Lake Success-based Canon U.S.A. Inc. is marketing a new scanner specifically designed to process checks, speeding access to funds for banks, utilities and other businesses that deal with high-volume personal and business check payments.

The imageFORMULA CR-135i High-Volume Check Transport will retail for about $2,800. It will process as many as 135 checks a minute, Canon U.S.A. says.

In addition to checks, the scanner can handle thicker items, such as envelopes and rebate check cards; and smaller documents such as coupons, vouchers and tickets.

The scanner uses a 250-item automatic document feeder; two 200-item eject pockets, and a 50-item eject pocket. It's designed to be installed on countertops.

Canon said in a news release that the scanner is "a perfect solution for high-volume remittance processing, lockbox, back-office capture, and branch automation."

It is compatible with a variety of software programs including AQ2 Technologies, Automated Systems Inc., Bluepoint Solutions, C&A Associates Inc., Creditron, FIS, Fiserv, Harland Financial Solutions, Jaguar Software, Northwest Bank Technology and Technology Management Resources Inc.
