Two top Canon U.S.A. executives on Long Island have been promoted by the company’s Japanese parent, Canon Inc., officials said.

Joe Adachi, chairman and chief executive of Canon U.S.A., which is based in Melville, will now serve as executive vice president of the parent company. He had been senior managing director there.

Seymour Liebman, executive vice president and general counsel of Canon U.S.A., will now serve as senior managing executive officer of the parent company. He had been managing executive officer.

A Canon U.S.A. spokeswoman said last week that Adachi, Liebman and other top executives are reviewed annually on their job performance. If promotions are warranted, they are discussed and announced at the Canon Inc. shareholders meeting, which took place last month.

“These appointments represent that the members not only have responsibilities in their respective regions, but also have global responsibilities,” said spokeswoman Melissa Moritz.

She said Adachi and Liebman’s responsibilities at Canon U.S.A. remain unchanged.

Canon manufactures cameras and imaging equipment. The parent company also has headquarters in Tokyo and London. The local operation has about 1,600 full-time employees.
