Carpenters union hiring 100 apprentices

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the New York City District Council of Carpenters union will begin taking applications Monday for 100 carpenter apprenticeships, officials said.

Applicants can obtain a lottery card at the council’s training center, 395 Hudson St., in Manhattan, from 7 to 10 a.m. on weekdays. They must have a valid government-issued photo ID.

Lottery cards must be filled out in person and placed in a locked box. They will be available through Aug. 26 or until 250 have been distributed, whichever comes first.

Cards will be selected randomly and applicants will receive a letter inviting them to attend a required orientation program. They must arrive on time to the program and complete an application form. They then will be given information about a future interview and documents that must be provided.

Applicants must be 17 or older, provide proof of completion of high school or GED courses, be physically able to do the work, pass a drug test, be legally able to work in the United States and have reliable transportation.
