Century 21 coming to Green Acres Mall

Off-price department store Century 21 will open its second location on Long Island this fall at Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, the mall's operator announced Thursday.

The two-story anchor store will cover about 70,000 square feet at the mall, acquired by Macerich Co., a Santa Monica, California, real estate investment trust, in a $500 million deal announced in 2012 with Manhattan-based Vornado Realty Trust.

"The Green Acres Mall is an ideal location for us that will expose us to both an urban and suburban luxury-seeking shopper," Century 21 CEO Raymond Gindi said in a statement. The store will be the 10th location for Manhattan-based Century 21, whose sole Long Island store is on Old Country Road in Westbury.

Macerich plans to build Green Acres Commons, a new $83.7 million shopping center adjacent to the mall, to replace a 14-screen movie complex, Sunrise Multiplex Cinemas, which closed in January.

Macerich president Ed Coppola said that Century 21 will attract "highly sophisticated, brand-focused shoppers from the Five Towns and from an expanded Green Acres trade area."
