Bring on the burrito bowls: Chipotle Mexican Grill is coming to Bay Shore in November, the fast-casual chain confirmed Monday.
The international chain will set up shop inside a strip mall that also houses a Game Stop video game store, a 24 Hour Fitness gym and a nail spa. The new 2,500-square-foot restaurant is being built in space previously occupied by one of New York's last remaining Quiznos sandwich shops, which closed in May, and a former Liberty Travel agency.
Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc., headquartered in Newport Beach, California, will open two more locations on Long Island in December — one in Commack, at 63 Commack Rd., and one in Sayville at 5171 Sunrise Hwy., Laurie Schalow, chief communications officer at Chipotle, said in an email.
The Bay Shore Chipotle will be located at 1675 Sunrise Hwy., next to Westfield South Shore mall, and will open on Nov. 13, Schalow said.
The company-owned restaurant will hire about 25 part-time employees, she said.
"We’re always looking for communities where we can serve responsibly sourced, classically cooked, real food and establish new local partnerships," Schalow said. "The Long Island area is a great fit."
Marc Kemp, principal at Woodmere-based Basser-Kaufman Real Estate, said the company is doing its own build-out.
"They're a nice company to do business with," he said. "And their food is pretty good too."
