An Amityville dealership is the only local stop on a nationwide tour to show off two of the models on which Chrysler Corp. is counting to rebuild its recession- and bankruptcy-battered sales.
Security Dodge/Chrysler at 345 Merrick Road will host Dodge brand executives and anyone else who wants to drop by Thursday to look over the 2011 Dodge Charger R/T and Dodge Challenger SRT8, both of which have significant upgrades.
“It’s supposed to help build excitement,” said dealership co-owner John J. Vigorito Jr., above.
An announcement from the Auburn Hills, Mich.-based carmaker, which is out of bankruptcy and enjoying improving sales and financials, said the tour to show off the two muscle cars began Sunday at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills and will include 25 stops at dealerships, enthusiast clubs, tuner shops and automotive events.
The only other stop in New York State is to be on Wednesday at Empire Mopars of New Windsor, whose website says it is a restoration shop specializing in Chrysler vehicles. The tour ends Dec. 20 in Corona, Ca.
