Defense contractor CPI Aerostructures Inc., of Edgewood, has an agreement worth up to $2 million to make machine gun windows for Sikorsky Black Hawk helicopters.

The two-piece windows slide open for machine gunners during combat. They are located on both sides of the helicopter just behind the pilot seats.

CPI will deliver the windows throughout 2011, ending in mid-2012.

More than 3,000 black hawk helicopters are in use today, operating in 27 countries, CPI said. With various configurations the Black Hawks serve for troop transport, medical evacuation, electronic warfare, attack, assault support and special operations.
