David Zaslav of Discovery Communications topped the list with $156.1 million in total compensation. 2. Michael Fries

3. Mario Gabelli
Mario Gabelli, the CEO of GAMCO Investors, a wealth management company, is No. 3 on the list with $88.5 million in 2014 compensation. 4. Satya Nadella
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was fourth on the list, with $84.3 million in 2014 compensation.
5. Nick Woodman
GoPro CEO Nick Woodman ranks No. 5 with $77.4 million in compensation in 2014. He's holding a GoPro camera, the company's signature product, in his mouth on June 26, 2014, as he celebrates his company's IPO at the Nasdaq MarketSite in Manhattan.
6. Gregory Maffei
Gregory Maffei, the CEO of Liberty Media Corp. and Liberty Interactive Corp., ranked sixth with $73.8 million in compensation in 2014. Maffei was attending the Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills, Calif. on April 27, 2015. The companies focus on media, communications and entertainment.
7. Larry Ellison
Oracle CEO Larry Ellison ranked No. 7 on the list with $67.3 million in compensation in 2014. Last year, he left his job at the multinational computer technology corporation.
8. Steven Mollenkopf
Steven Mollenkopf, the CEO of Qualcomm, was eighth in the rankings with $60.7 million in 2014 compensation. The company designs, develops, manufactures, and markets digital communications products and services.
9. David Hamamoto
David Hamamoto, the CEO of NorthStar Realty Finance, is No. 9 on the list with $60.3 million in compensation in 2014. He and his wife, Marty Hamamoto, attend a gala on Oct. 22, 2014, for the World Monuments Fund at The Pierre hotel in Manhattan.
10. Les Moonves
Les Moonves, the chief of CBS Corp., was the 10th-highest-paid U.S. CEO in 2014, with $54.4 million in compensation. Moonves was attending the annual Milken Institute Global Conference on April 29, 2015, in Beverly Hills, Calif.
