Good news for those early birds who love to get tax filing done with the starting gun: today is opening day for e-filing.

Clearly, the earlier you file, the earlier you’re likely to get your return. (And the more smug you can be with friends and family who’ll be filing or dashing off to the post office April 18, which is this year’s deadline.)

Of course, some people, those affected by  last year’s tax law changes, can’t file until mid-February, as the IRS is reprogramming its processing systems. Learn more about that by clicking here.

Last year close to 71 percent of New Yorkers filed electronically -- that was  62.8 million, up four percent from the year before, says Dianne Besunde, IRS media relations in New York City. Learn more about e-filing here.
