The Estee Lauder Cos. Inc., which has a major research, manufacturing and financial facility in Melville, has enlisted a slew of supermodels -- make that spokes-models -- to help it launch The Estée Lauder Channel, on YouTube (at youtube.com/esteelauder).
The company has models Hilary Rhoda, Constance Jablonski, Liu Wen, Joan Smalls, Carolyn Murphy and Elizabeth Hurley promoting the channel, subtitled Your Source for Expert Beauty Advice.
The video channel kicks off with 35 original videos with what the company says is a highly interactive, visual, tactile look at the Estée Lauder brand.
The videos include how-tos, interviews with creative makeup director Tom Pecheux and behind-the-scenes footage.
The company said it is committed to maintaining its Long Island workforce, though it laid off assemblers in Melville in March and laid off 535 from its Whitman Packaging Corp. subsidiary's plant in Islandia in February; then closed the Islandia plant in June.
In a 2003 profile of then-chief operating officer William Lauder, a Newsday reporter described the Melville campus as "a warren of laboratories [where] 350 scientists combine white birch bark, exotic mushrooms, licorice and gemstones with other ingredients to concoct anti-aging breakthroughs, create new ways to effect color and mix potions women didn't know they needed."
