Owning and operating a franchise will be the topic at a free event next week in Hauppauge.
"All About Franchises," hosted by Teachers Federal Credit Union, will be held on April 23 at TFCU's headquarters, 102 Motor Pkwy., from 7:45 to 9:30 a.m.
The event, part of the credit union's TFCUniversity Business Clinic series, will feature franchise professionals and business leaders on a panel moderated by Adam Altman, regional vice president for Newtek -- The Small Business Authority.
Panelists will include: John Mallano, deputy district director of the New York district office of the Small Business Administration; Laura Jankowski, owner and Long Island area developer for Tropical Smoothie; and Harold Kestenbaum, an attorney who has served as franchise counsel to franchise companies including Sbarro, Boulder Creek Steaks & Saloon, Nathan's Famous and 1-800-Flowers.
To start the event, Altman will discuss the continued implementation and expansion of chips on debit and credit cards. In addition, representatives from TFCU will answer questions regarding franchise financing. Breakfast will be served.
