Gold Coast Bank said Friday it planned to open a sixth branch, in Southampton.

It will be the Islandia-based bank's first branch east of Brookhaven Town.

Gold Coast said it filed applications with the New York State Department of Financial Services and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to open the branch at 97 North Sea Rd., in Southampton Village's Business District, adjacent to the Southampton Post Office.

Gold Coast, a private bank with assets of $324 million on Dec. 31, has branches now in Mineola, Huntington, Farmingdale, East Setauket and at its headquarters in Islandia.

Gold Coast's executive vice president and chief financial officer, Catherine Califano, said the impetus for the bank's first East End branch came from two new board members who do business there -- Dottie Herman, chief executive of Douglas-Elliman Real Estate, and builder Joe Farrell of Bridgehampton.

Califano said an existing building would be refitted for the new branch and that it's expected to open late next month or in June.
