An environmental group claims that lead was found in 125 of 146 children’s and baby food products tested, including an Earth’s Best organic juice product.

Earth’s Best is owned by The Hain Celestial Group, based in Melville.

Last week, the Environmental Law Foundation filed notices against the companies, charging that the products contain enough lead in one serving that they require a warning under California’s safe drinking water law.

Out of 34 apple juice products tested, 24 had at least 0.5 micrograms of lead per serving, including Earth’s Best Organics Apple Juice. For the other 10, no samples exceeded that limit.

Efforts to get a comment from Hain Celestial since Monday morning have not been successful.

For a complete list of the products tested and more information, go to www.envirolaw.org/currentcases.html.
