Hain's McCartney veggies get boost from Sir Paul

A line of veggie burgers from Melville-based Hain Celestial Group got a boost from Sir Paul McCartney at a recent London concert, according to a British tabloid.

Hain owns the Linda McCartney Foods Co. line of vegetarian cuisine, a company founded by the Beatle's late wife.

Paul McCartney insisted only no-meat burgers be offered to musicians at the June 27 Hard Rock Calling concert in London's Hyde Park, according to the Daily Star. The event was the third day of the Hard Rock Ambassadors of Rock concert series.

The only burgers to be served up were to be Linda McCartney veggie ones, the Daily Star reported. "Sir Paul has requested the artist [catering] area goes veggie all day . . . and adds Linda's range to the menu," the tabloid said.

A native New Yorker, Linda McCartney helped popularize the vegetarian diet in the 1980s through her line of frozen foods. She died in 1998 from breast cancer. Hain bought her line of organic foods and grooming products, based in Fakenham, England, in 2006.
