A proposal to build a McDonald's fast-food restaurant at a Coram shopping center is to be discussed during a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Brookhaven Town Hall, 1 Independence Hill, Farmingville.
The restaurant is seeking a special town permit for a restaurant with a drive-through window.
Plans for the proposed restaurant have been altered in an attempt to satisfy concerns raised by Coram residents, town Planning director Tullio Bertoli said Monday during a Brookhaven Town Board work session.
For example, he said the restaurant has agreed to set aside a 200-foot buffer — about 5 acres — in which construction will not be allowed. The town may decide later whether to dedicate the buffer as open space, Bertoli said.
Coram residents also have objected to some aspects of the restaurant's design, Bertoli said. McDonald's agreed to remove a sign that critics had called a "flying French fry," he said.
