HIA-LI to recognize award-winning businesses

The HIA-LI is set Tuesday to recognize the four winners of its annual Business Achievement Awards.

Rothco, a Ronkonkoma family owned wholesale supplier of military, camping and security merchandise and gear, won in the large-business category of 100 or more employees. The accounting firm Gettry Marcus won for small-business; it has offices in Woodbury and New York City and provides accounting, tax and consulting services to business and high-net worth individuals. The American Red Cross on Long Island in Mineola won in the nonprofit category. And Compass Workforce Solutions, a Melville human-resource-consulting firm, won Rookie of the Year, whose contenders have been operating for fewer than five years.

"The award recipients represent a diverse group of outstanding organizations," the HIA said.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the awards ceremony of the group, formerly known as the Hauppauge Industrial Association.

The HIA-LI said the criteria used to pick the winners include positive employer-employee relations, commitment to the growth of the Long Island business community and a three-to-five year vision for their companies.

"We are convinced," said the group's president Terri Alessi-Micelli, "that the progress, effective economic operations, corporate vision ... and other crucial characteristics that this year's winning organizations have displayed will serve to inspire other businesses and organizations."

The luncheon ceremony will take place at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.
