A funny thing happened this week to WMJC's "hot adult contemporary" radio format.
It's not there anymore.
Now, when you tune the radio to 94.3 on the FM dial you're at the new "94-X — Hits for Generation X."
A sample of the playlist Tuesday morning had these three songs in this order:
* Def Leppard, "Pour Some Sugar On Me"
* Seal, "Kiss from a Rose"
* Mary J. Blige, "Family Affair"
Between songs a voiceover says, "This is Long Island's new 94-X. . . . The new 94-X what will we play next?"
While the station's own website hadn't been changed by Tuesday morning to the new call letters, the corporate web site has a straight live link: http://www.liradiogroup.com.
The remake details are there: "Welcome to Long Island's all-new 94-X! If you know Kramer's first name . . . went to actual record stores to buy cassettes . . . know all the words to the Big Mac song . . . and remember when SNL was really funny. . . the New 94-X is your station!
