Northwell Health has named Dr. Nick Fitterman the new executive director of Huntington Hospital.
Fitterman was the vice chair of medicine at Northwell. Previously, he was the head of hospitalists at Huntington Hospital.
Fitterman replaces Dr. Gerard X. Brogan Jr., who was promoted to chief revenue officer at Northwell Health earlier this month.
Brogan spearheaded the development of Huntington Hospital’s $53 million, 28,000-square-foot emergency department that opened in January 2017.
Fitterman is an elected governor of the American College of Physicians’ Long Island Region. He also has a fellow designation from the Society of Hospitalist Medicine and is the former president of the group’s Long Island chapter.
Fitterman, a graduate of SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, served as chief resident at SUNY Stony Brook. He is an associate professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Huntington Hospital this month opened its Center for Mothers and Babies, which has 19 private rooms.
Huntington Hospital is run by New Hyde Park-based Northwell Health, the largest private employer in the state with 66,000 employees.
