Yesterday the entrepreneur and inventor Dean Kamen gave the world an update on his worldview in a profile.

He's in the news because his cable TV show, "Dean of Invention," premieres this week on Planet Green.

Kamen tells he has "created the most carbon-neutral kingdom on the planet — 'carbon-negative,' in fact." He hopes thus to inspire the youth of the world to lead a greener lifestyle.

His green kingdom is an island he owns off the North Shore that's geographically part of Southold Town (though it’s closer to Connecticut).

It's called North Dumpling Island; he long ago declared it a sovereign nation, and while on the island, residing in his 4,000 square foot house there, he insists on being called Lord Dumpling.

Famous for inventing the Segway, Kamen sold his first company, AutoSyringe Inc., to Baxter International Inc. in 1982.

Newsday last checked in on Kamen and North Dumpling in a 2002 story when he told reporter Pradnya Joshi that he'd seceded from the United States after government officials tried to block him from building a wind turbine on the two-acre island, to supply power for his house.
