U.S. stocks end day mixed as 3-week rally fizzles

Stock indexes ended the day mixed as a three-week rally lost momentum.

At the close on Wall Street, The Standard & Poor’s 500 index lost 3.1 points, about 0.1 percent, to 2,163.8. The Dow Jones industrial average edged up nearly 26 points, about 0.1 percent, to 18,559. The Nasdaq composite declined 19.4 points, about 0.4 percent, to 5,036.4.

Investors were focused on corporate earnings which were coming in mixed.

The price for benchmark U.S. crude oil was down 65 cents at $44.59 a barrel in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. In London, the price of the international benchmark Brent crude was down 26 cents at $46.70 a barrel.
