The hospitality firm Lessing's, of Great River, has expanded its food-service territory to include nearly 80 college and business accounts.

The food service locations are in upstate New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

Chief executive Michael Lessing did not disclose the terms of the deal to buy the food service division of Next Generation Vending and Food Service of Canton, Mass.

Lessing’s currently operates eight full-service restaurants and a hotel, the Three village Inn, and provides catering services for weddings and other special events.

It also owns Finnegan's pub in Huntington Village, the Library Cafe in Farmingdale, Maxwell's in Islip, the Post Office Cafe in Babylon Village, the View restaurant in Oakdale, the Mirabelle Tavern in Stony Brook and the Bulldog Grille in Amityville.

The company, with 1,000 employees, says it has been owned and operated continuously by the Lessing family since the its founding in 1890.

In July, Newsday's Peter Gianotti wrote that Lessing's "dramatically overhauled and improved the landmark Three Village Inn in Stony Brook… turning a mummified '80s concept into a '10 destination."

By the way, Lessing’s is hiring at a new operation, The Chateau at Coindre Hall. It’s looking for bartenders, waiters and waitresses. More info is available from dan@lessings.com.
