Long Island lawyer Leonard Bellavia is taking his years of experience working in automobile warranty law and applying it to a new industry: boats.
Bellavia has recently founded MarineLab Warranty Processing, a business that helps boat dealerships process warranties when boats are brought back for repairs.
The service is based in Mineola -- where Bellavia also runs his law practice -- but is available to boat dealerships across the United States who are part of the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas (MRAA).
Since boat dealerships, and the overall boating industry, were hit particularly hard by the recession and are still in the process of rebounding, Bellavia said his service would be able to aid dealerships who had to let their warranty processors go.
“In layoffs, the warranty processors are let go first ... and boat dealers may suffer because of that,” he said.
MarineLab would be able to help boat dealerships process warranty claims faster, which could lead to faster repairs and more satisfied customers. That could lead to more revenue for boat dealerships, Bellavia said.
