LI women's organization opens new HQ

The National Association of Professional Women has moved into a new, custom-built headquarters office in Garden City on the ground floor of a Franklin Avenue building.

It also disclosed this week that the organization's new national spokeswoman is TV celebrity and lawyer Star Jones, who will visit local chapters around the United States and appear publicly on behalf of the association.

The 20,000 square foot office was “furnished and outfitted with the latest computer and telecommunications equipment to accommodate the association’s rapid growth in membership and employees,” the company said in a news release. The association spent $1 million on the headquarters project, aimed at providing a comfortable working environment for its 100 workers.

“The facility also has ample room for the association’s anticipated growth over the next several years,” the news release said.

The association says it has more than 300,000 members nationwide, with more than 150 local chapters in all 50 states.

Star Jones, seen in an undated photo, is the new national spokeswoman for the National Association of Professional Women.
