Long Islanders looking to buy their own franchises have a chance to learn more about the process at a pair of free workshops Tuesday at the Carlyle at the Palace in Plainview.

The "Meet the Franchisor" workshops, hosted by Roslyn Heights-based merger and acquisitions firm the Kensington Company, will outline financing options for buying a franchise, as well as how to research and find the right business fit for them.

"A ton of people are afraid of going into business ownership by themselves," said Ken Stein, managing director at Kensington. "We're going to educate the attendees on what the right questions to ask a franchiser are."

In addition to Kensington's educational sessions, attendees will hear presentations from representatives of seven franchise companies looking to expand throughout Long Island, including Great Clips, Express Employment Professionals and Chocolate Works.

Those interested in attending either the lunch workshop -- 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- or the dinner workshop -- 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. -- can register at or call 516-626-2211. Lunch and dinner will be provided.
