The Small Business Development Center on the campus of Farmingdale State University has given this year's Phoenix Award to the owners of Moolala, a Merrick self-serve yogurt store. The owners, Robert and Danielle Rosenberg, are examples of "the entrepreneurial spirit of creating opportunities during difficult times," the center said.

" Like so many Americans, Danielle and Robert Rosenberg had great jobs and a comfortable life until they were significantly impacted by the economic recession," the center said. The Rosenbergs could not immediately be reached for comment.

"Using the help of the Small Business Development Center, the Rosenbergs researched and developed a business plan for a self serve yogurt café. Moolala, an instant success, opened in Merrick in June of 2010." The award was presented late last month.
