Dick’s Sporting Goods will open a new 70,000-square-foot store next month near Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream.
The retailer will be opening on July 8 at 8 a.m. at the new Green Acres Commons location, at 7 Green Acres Commons. The new store will employ about 100 full-time and part-time employees.
“The opening of our newest Dick’s Sporting Goods in Valley Stream will enable us to serve athletes, sports fans and outdoor enthusiasts in the community at an even higher level,” Lauren Hobart, the company’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, said in a statement.
Former New York Mets outfielder Mookie Wilson will make an in-store appearance on July 9 from noon to 2 p.m. as part of Dick’s three-day grand opening celebration. Wristbands required for an autograph will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of event.
The new store will feature athletic and outdoor apparel and footwear, and gear for team sports, fitness, camping, hunting and fishing.
The Pittsburgh-based company, founded in 1948, operates more than 645 locations in the United States. Dick’s also owns and operates Golf Galaxy, Field & Stream, True Runner and Chelsea Collective stores.
