PL Developments, a drugmaker based in Westbury, has won federal approval to manufacture the pain reliever ibuprofen, it announced Monday.

The company will produce 200 mg brown and orange tablets and caplets at its Miami factory. The pills are the generic version of Motrin, Advil and other name-brand pain relievers.

PL President Evan Singer said the approval, from the Food and Drug Administration, is the first the company has received using the Abbreviated New Drug Application process for generic products.

He also said he expects to produce other drugs at the Florida plant.
