The Town of Oyster Bay board gave its final approval Tuesday to a large housing development in Plainview at its board meeting.
Developer Michael Dubb, whose Jericho business uses the name the Beechwood Organization, plans to build 750 units of housing and a retail space on a 143.3-acre lot. The developer will give 57.9 acres of that lot to the town for open space and recreation.
The project will be called Country Pointe Plainview. The density of the project had drawn complaints from the community, but it also had supporters, and nearly all of the roughly dozen who people spoke at the meeting Tuesday said they were in favor of the project.
Negotiations with Oyster Bay Planning and Development Commissioner Frederick Ippolito yielded a reduction in units from 793, and additional open space. The project is expected to provide housing for 1,434 residents with most of the units being offered for sale at projected prices ranging from $600,000 to $950,000, according to the final environmental impact statement.
The board's actions remove restrictive covenants, approve the site plan and change in zoning.
