Hot Skates, a well-known Lynbrook roller rink, is expected to be shut down and replaced with a self-storage facility, according to village officials.

Mequity Acquisitions LLC is buying the 14 Merrick Road facility, and plans to tear down the current building, replacing it with a three-story CubeSmart, a national self-storage company with more than 100 locations in New York.

Terms of the proposed deal were not disclosed and Hot Skates would not comment.

A call to CubeSmart was not immediately returned.

"It is unfortunate the family couldn't find someone to keep operating Hot Skates as a roller skating rink. It will be missed," Lynbrook Mayor Alan Beach said Friday. "Fortunately for the Village, skaters can go to Greis Veterans Memorial Park and use the rink located there."

Village officials said the project still needs Village and Nassau County approvals.
