Waterloo, Ont. company Athena Software and Richmond, Australia-based consulting firm Sinapse have partnered to implement Athena's Penelope case management software system for Medicare Local organizations in Australia.

Australian consulting firm Sinapse and Waterloo, Ont. software company Athena Software have begun implementing Athena's Penelope case management software application at Medicare Local organizations across Australia.
Medicare Locals form the Australian Medicare Local Alliance, a group whose grassroots work helps to promote preventive health care in order to help create a more cost-effective healthcare system.
Sinapse is a partner of Athena Software and provides comprehensive implementation services to organizations using Penelope in Australia and New Zealand.
Sinapse recently completed a successful implementation of Penelope with Western Sydney Medicare Local (WSML), the third-largest Medicare Local in Australia and a leading integrated primary health care provider.
Outcomes of Sinapse's implementation of WSML's Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS), Closing the Gap and SHAPE programs included taking the SHAPE program fully online and paper-less with Penelope, automating the complex calculations within SHAPE assessment tools, enabling mobile entering of notes in Penelope via smartphone and tablet and configuring mandatory reporting to DOHA and other government agencies from within Penelope.
Sinapse also implements the Partners in Recovery (PIR) program for Medicare Local organizations using Penelope's highly-configurable and secure cloud-based software.
"Adopting a structured implementation approach, starting with process mapping and data gathering workshops through face-to-face user acceptance testing and end-user training has helped Medicare Locals understand the capabilities of software leverage and the full benefits of Penelope," said Andrew Tauro, senior project manager at Sinapse.
Representatives of both Sinapse and Athena recently showcased Penelope for Medicare Local organizations at the National Primary Health Care Conference in Queensland's Gold Coast in November.
Hosted by the Australian Medicare Local Alliance, the conference featured a joint Sinapse and Athena booth where attendees received demonstrations of Penelope from a Sinapse team featuring Tauro, senior Penelope solution architect John Reilly and Sinapse partner Noel Thurlow, along with Athena Software business development engineer Alan Golding.
"The AML Alliance Conference 2013 was a great success for Athena Software and Sinapse," said Golding. "We received great exposure and the Medicare Local organizations were really impressed with how Penelope can run programs such as Partners in Recovery, ATAPS, Closing the Gap and After Hours. It was great to meet some potential clients as well as some current clients who are already using Penelope successfully. It's exciting to be a part of a developing relationship between Athena Software, Sinapse and the Australian Medicare Locals."
Noel Thurlow, Sinapse's partner for the public and not-for-profit sector, agreed: "These conferences are great opportunities for us to connect to new customers and to continue to build ongoing relationships with existing customers," he said in a press release issued by Sinapse recently. "We had enormous interest in the software and our program templates from most of the Medicare Locals that attended the conference."
Added Dana Fox, Athena Software director of business development: "Athena Software and Sinapse have been successful implementing Medicare Locals programs like Partners in Recovery, ATAPS, Closing the Gap and SHAPE with Penelope. We were excited to meet Medicare Local staff at the recent trade show in Australia and find out what we can do to help Medicare Local agencies across Australia. Medicare Locals using Penelope can deliver and commit to additional sessions, more patients and more referrals from GPs."
