Samantha Kingery, a sophomore at the University of Central Florida, named winner of the 2015 U.S. Emerald Energy scholarship.
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) October 20, 2015
U.S. Emerald Energy Company congratulates Samantha Kingery, a sophomore at the University of Central Florida, for winning the 2015 scholarship award.
The scholarship, sponsored by U.S. Emerald Energy Company of Houston, TX, awards the $1,000 prize each year to a deserving college student planning a career in the energy industry. Ms. Kingery was selected from over 65 other applicants for her problem-solving skills and a short essay discussing her scholarship needs.
In her essay on why she should receive the scholarship, Ms. Kingery explained how she graduated high school summa cum laude and with an Associate of Arts degree through the dual enrollment program. She is currently on track to complete her bachelor degree in only three years, having qualified for college level courses as a high school student.
Ms. Kingery has proven academic prowess by scoring 29 out of a possible 36 points on the ACT test, a notable achievement. In addition, she has previously earned the Florida Academic Scholarship through Bright Futures.
“The scholarship will allow me the time to focus on maintaining my 4.0 GPA, taking a full load of classes while simultaneously preparing for research and internship opportunities,” said Ms. Kingery.
For an internship, she is seeking employment with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, where she wants to work as a forensic biologist. Her employment there will give her needed experience as well as income to fund her graduate studies. She aspires to continue on to graduate school at the University of Florida and to become a forensic scientist in the oil and gas industry.
“A graduate program will satisfy my intellectual curiosity and enable me to make substantial advancements in my career," she explained. "Working as a forensic scientist would enable me to make a difference within the oil and gas drilling industry through improved scientific techniques.”
Ms. Kingery was chosen based on her outstanding grades and a very well written scholarship application with a plan to seek future employment in the oil and gas industry.
"She also figured out, on her own, how to send in her essay when the application web page was not working correctly," said Matt Greenfield, Director of Investor Relations with U.S. Emerald Energy. "This type of problem solver is the kind of individual that is most likely to succeed in a field full of variables and unknowns such as oil and gas exploration and science."
