The Hanover Theatre Announces 2015 Adopt-A-School Collaboration with South High Community School

The Hanover Theatre's third annual Adopt-A-School program collaboration with South High Community School is under way with this year's Broadway tour of Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical.

Worcester, MA (PRWEB) November 02, 2015

The Hanover Theatre is proud to announce that the 2015 Adopt-A-School program with South High Community School will be centered around DR. SEUSS’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL. This will be the third annual Adopt-A-School Program. The program is made possible by the theatre’s Access to the Arts Fund and other generous donations.

The Adopt-A-School Program introduces high school students to live theatre through an intensive 6-week planning process. Early in the school year, faculty work with education specialists from The Hanover Theatre to plan for their Broadway show experience. Over the course of three weeks, content and themes from the show are integrated into the school’s core curriculum.

Meghan Montaner, director of education at The Hanover Theatre, is looking forward to the collaboration and the show. “We’re excited about partnering with South High on DR. SEUSS’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL because of the local connection. Dr. Seuss was from Springfield, Mass. and went to Dartmouth College, so it’s nice to have that tie in.”

Not only is there a local connection to the show, but DR. SEUSS’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL will be opening their national tour at The Hanover Theatre on November 6, 2015. “The fact that the tour is opening here in Worcester will give us even more opportunities to work with the cast and crew in the week before the show opens” says Montaner.

The Adopt-A-School program has seen immense success for the past two years exposing hundreds of underserved students to their first Broadway show.

“In my career of 38 years there are moments I remember that make me smile; the Adopt-A-School Program will be something I will remember as reaching deep into my soul-it had a powerful effect on both staff and students who participated in the program” says Maureen Binienda, principal at South High School.

The program was nationally recognized as a successful way to implement theatre education into core curriculum standards using Broadway shows at the Broadway League’s 2014 Spring Road Conference in New York City.

About The Hanover Theatre:
The Hanover Theatre continues to draw over 170,000 patrons annually with world-class performances and headlining acts including Broadway hits (“Les Misérables,” “Mary Poppins,” “Jersey Boys”); comedians (Steve Martin, Jay Leno, Daniel Tosh); musical acts (Neil Young, Aretha Franklin, John Legend, Diana Ross); and everything in between (“A Christmas Carol,” Maya Angelou, Rudy Giuliani, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre). Consistently ranked by POLLSTAR as one of the Top Theatres in the World, the theatre opened in March of 2008 following a $32 million historic renovation. Over the last seven seasons, the theatre has established its place as a world-class performing arts venue, acting as a catalyst for the economic development of downtown Worcester. In 2015 the theatre finalized the purchase of a vacant, three-floor former office building with street-level retail space at 551 Main Street. The building will ultimately house office space for theatre administration, function areas, a restaurant on the ground floor and an educational space on the lower level. The building is set to open in 2016.
