Restoration Hardware is set to open a showroom and gallery in East Hampton.
The high-end national chain store purveys high-end textiles, furniture, lighting, bathware, hardware "and amusements."
The 69 Main St. location opens Saturday. The layout includes two levels, with about 6,000 square feet.
It's in a building constructed in1908, once housing East Hampton’s largest mercantile store, Gregory & Co., featuring "dry and fancy goods" on the first floor and furniture on the second.
"Restoration Hardware has thoughtfully restored the original spirit of the building, revealing exposed brick walls and hand-cut beams made of old-growth timber harvested over a century ago," the company said.
The merchandise consists of "distinctive collections presented in an inspired lifestyle setting that instantly captivates the imagination and creates an experience akin to visiting the most elegant and personal of homes," Restoration Hardware says.
The company said its choice of a stand-alone shop in East Hampton is emblematic of its strategy of moving away from malls and setting up shop in distinctive buildings in "iconic locales."
Photos show the building site as it was in 1894, and as it is now.
