The Gold Coast Gazette, a weekly newspaper covering Glen Cove and other communities on the North Shore of Nassau County, has been purchased by Richner Communications for an undisclosed amount, executives announced Tuesday.
Garden City-based Richner publishes weekly papers on Long Island, including 17 Herald weeklies covering Nassau’s South Shore; the Jewish Star; the Riverdale Press in the Bronx; PrimeTime shopping guides; Xpress Coups coupon books and Long Beach Magazine. It says it is the largest business of its kind on the Island.
Richner has been printing the Gazette since the paper was founded in 1991 by the late Patricia Horton and her son, Kevin. Richner now will assume control of the weekly’s editorial and advertising operations.
“The Gazette has become a staple in the community and we plan to continue the Hortons’ commitment to journalistic integrity,” said publisher Cliff Richner, who, with his brother Stuart, runs 52-year-old Richner Communications.
The Gazette covers Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Glen Head, Glenwood Landing and Locust Valley.
Horton said his family is very close to the Richners. “It’s an honor to hand over the reins to family,” he said.
