Don't bet on taking a nonstop flight after Nov. 6 on Southwest Airlines from Islip's MacArthur Airport to Las Vegas.
That's because the nonstop flights will be eliminated as of that date.
Right now, you can still book a nonstop flight on Southwest.com through Nov. 5.
For the time being, a typical day's departures show one nonstop flight leaving Islip at 7:25 a.m. and arriving in Las Vegas at 10:15 a.m. (a 5 hour, 50 minute flight crossing two time zones). Other choices the same day are five one-stop flights, all requiring a change of planes, and taking around 8 hours; and a two-stop flight, changing planes once, for a 10-hour flight. All flights cost $459 one-way.
Return flights on the current schedule are similar, except the nonstop flight is only 5 hours, 5 minutes, leaving Las Vegas at 9:40 a.m. and arriving in Islip at 5:45 p.m. The other choices are all two-stops or one-stops with plane changes; and a couple of one-stops with no plane change.
That all changes from Nov. 6 on -- when the nonstop flights are cut from the schedule.
