First-time home buyers can learn about grants and other financing options at two free seminars hosted by a credit union this month, including one conducted in Spanish.

The credit union, Suffolk Federal, will host a seminar on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at its Riverhead branch, Route 24 at 2 Enterprise Zone Dr. A second seminar will take place in Spanish on Oct. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the credit union’s Islandia branch, 1282 Motor Pkwy.

At the seminars, buyers can learn about the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York’s First Home Club, which aims to help moderate and low-income first-time home buyers save for their purchase. For each $1 saved, eligible credit union members can receive $4 in matching grant funds of up to $7,500.

The club is “offering potential first-time home purchasers a wonderful opportunity to purchase the home of their dreams,” said William J. O’Brien, president and chief executive of Suffolk Federal.

The seminars also will offer an overview of topics such as the real estate market, mortgages, contracts and closing costs.

More information about eligibility and program details can be found on Suffolk Federal’s website.

Registration is required. To register, call Lisa at 631-924-8000, ext. 8265, or email For the Spanish language seminar, call Evelyn at 631-924-8000, ext. 8601.
