Summer program at LaunchPad LI

LaunchPad Long Island is now taking applications for a competitive start-up accelerator program this summer in its Mineola co-working space.

Six start-up companies will be selected to participate in the eight-week accelerator program, which aims to increase the companies pace of growth and maturation.  Participants will receive free office space in LaunchPad, a weekly stipend, mentorship and an investor pitch day at its conclusion. Team-building leisure events, such as visits to local vineyards or days at the beach, also will be part of the program.

This will be the second accelerator program to pop up on Long Island within the past year. In late 2012, the Long Island Software & Technology Network led a similar effort called LI Tech COMETS, which selected three local start-ups to mentor. The program is still operating.

Any start-up company is welcome to apply,  but if accepted, it will be required to work at LaunchPad's location in Mineola over the summer, said Andrew Hazen,  co-founder of LaunchPad.

Ideally, the program is seeking start-ups that have already started building or developing a version of its core product. That way, the companies will better be able to take advantage of the accelerator program's offerings to grow its business and customers, Hazen said.

Hazen added that he chose the summer date and the eight-week time period to better accommodate any college students who might be back home and interested in further developing any start-up ideas.

Applications are available online at and due May 17. The program is to begin June 3 and end with demonstration day on July 24.
