TD Bank America ranked as the best in service to small businesses among 16 major banks in the Northeast in a J.D. Power & Associates survey.

The New Jersey-based U.S. unit of Canada's TD Bank Group won the ranking once before in the 10-year-old survey, in 2013.

J.D. Power's announcement Thursday said TD "performs particularly well in product offerings; facility; fees; account information; and channel activities," the last including ATM, mobile and phone channels.

J.D. Power, based in Westlake Village, California, surveyed about 9,000 small business owners or financial decision-makers during the summer.

The 16 banks included were those with at least $2 billion in deposits and 50 branches, and for which Power received at least 100 customer survey responses. Chase ranked highest in the West and Midwest; Citibank was highest in the South.

In the Northeast, TD outscored Chase, Wells Fargo, Citibank, PNC Bank, Citizens, Capital One and Bank of America, in that order.

TD has 61 branches on Long Island. The bank said its total business lending and business deposit dollars on Long Island were up 12 percent year over year in its fiscal year ended Oct. 31. It didn't disclose dollar figures.
