The most visible sign that Teachers Federal Credit Union is growing is that it needs a new building for its headquarters, president and chief executive Robert Allen said.
And it will have one some time next year, he said during an impromptu tour of the credit union's now-cramped five-story headquarters in Farmingville. The new headquarters will take up much of a new building in Hauppauge, in the same office complex where the Bank of Smithtown is based.
The move will allow the credit union to save money by consolidating space in three locations, and it will make it more prominent than ever in a building easily visible from the Long Island Expressway.
"It's going to give us the room to continue to grow," Allen said. The credit union will keep the Farmingville building and may rent out floors that it vacates, Allen said.
