NAME Gummy Drop! (Big Fish Games)
WHAT This match-three game travels the world with the player earning coins and resources needed to rebuild a country's landmarks, such as Australia's Parliament House in Sydney, where the game begins. There are goals to be accomplished, other than just completing each level's puzzles, which makes Gummy Drop! different from other match-threes.
HOW MUCH Free
COMPATIBLE WITH iPhone, iPad and iPod touch (requires iOS 6.0 or later).
WHAT'S GOOD The game could go on forever. Big Fish says it adds new levels each month, and the destination cities have more than 100 levels each. Plus, each level has three games within it. As you progress through the level, you have fewer chances to complete the puzzle, but the rewards are greater. There is a daily challenge that allows you to earn extra coins to buy boosts or extra moves. Coins also can be used to create marts that generate resources. Although you need these resources to build landmarks, once a day you can trade some of your resources for coins. The "Lucky Spin" feature, which resembles a roulette wheel, can win you additional moves or an extra life.
WHAT'S NOT When is a free game not a free game? When you don't have the willpower to resist in-app purchases, and there are plenty here. Whereas other games start you with five lives, here you only receive three. The privilege of permanently having five costs $9.99.
BOTTOM LINE Our Candy Crush is over, now that we've found this newer, sweeter game.
