Apple iPhone messages disabled by string of text characters

Apple iPhone messaging bug

A string of characters has the ability to lock people out of messaging on their iPhones if received via text, according to iPhone owners across the Internet.

First reported on Reddit, the newly found iOS bug causes the app to crash continuously if the message is received. The characters cause the messaging app to crash -- and in some cases -- the phone entirely.

People have taken to Twitter to voice their concerns about the text.

According to The Verge, no update from Apple has been sent out yet to fix the bug, but there are a few methods to fix it yourself. Using a Mac and opening the messaging app from your computer can negate the effect, as well as using the share sheet or asking Siri to send a message to whoever sent the bug to you.
