Techie eyes are on a convention hall in San Francisco where Apple is scheduled to unveil its latest product Wednesday, Jan. 27, informally know as the tablet. (Some capitalize it, some don't.)
The big moment will be at 1 p.m. New York time. But in the hours leading up to it, here's the latest speculation on the gizmo:
* The Wall Street Journal reports the tablet has a 10-inch touch screen "that is expected to deliver video, text, navigation and social-networking applications."
* The blog Patently Apple scores an illustration of a tablet filed with a newly-released patent for Apple -- apparently you won't have to touch the screen of the new device for certain actions to be triggered, you just need to be near it...
* WIRED magazine is saying that an inside source is saying (breathless enough for ya?) that the latest creation is bigger than its hardware, always a sexy thing when it comes to Apple. The focus will be on a wider industry of content creators and providers, which could mean a revolution in the news business.
The company's teaser is "Come see our latest creation."
So will it up the ante in the e-book business or be the Big Bang that moves media and entertainment businesses in a new direction?
Keep checking back here all day, we'll update as more leaks out ahead of the unveiling. And of course, we'll have all the photos and videos once Steve Jobs lets the world in on his latest creation.
