NAME Spritz (

WHAT IT DOES It increases your reading efficiency.

COMPATIBLE WITH Computers; also works on smartphones and tablets

WHAT’S GOOD Spritz uses a text-delivery system that changes how you engage with and read content. To use Spritz, go to its website and drag the Spritzlet button to your browser’s bookmark bar. To add it to your phone or tablet, go to the website and follow the instructions, which are a bit more complex. Once you have installed the bookmark, go to any web page and click on Spritzlet. The text will flow in a box, word by word. The site claims that it takes less than five minutes to get used to its reading process, and that it’s based on Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP), a common speed-reading technique that works because of the alignment of words and the rhythm of reading them. (The website explains the process in detail.) Unregistered users can modulate the text speed from 200 to 450 words a minute. If you register (free), you can adjust the speed from five to 1,000 words a minute, which can make it an excellent reading tool not only for adults, but also for youngsters.

WHAT’S NOT You’ll find that Spritz works with varying degrees of success depending on the website. Spritz encourages users to email them with URL information when a site does not work as expected. On some sites, the app would just scan a story’s headline. If that happens, you can highlight the text you want to read and then hit the play button.

BOTTOM LINE Read more in less time with the same comprehension.
