First, the good news – Comic Con is in town this weekend at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. Awesome. Now the bad news – unless you already have tickets, you probably won’t be able to get in. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday are completely sold out.
But you do have a glimmer of hope to get into the geekfest. Tickets for today are still available for $45.
Whether you had the foresight to buy tickets ahead of time or you’re beating yourself over the head for procrastinating, here’s somewhat you’ll be missing or enjoying:

-- A special edition of “Mass Effect: Invasion #1” will be available in a limited, 500-copy run only at Comic Con, with an exclusive cover by BioWare’s Ben Huen. “Mass Effect” and “Mass Effect 2” are well-known to gamers.
-- Kevin Sorbo (Hercules) will be signing copies of his book “True Strength” for nine straight hours on Friday.
-- Join Nick Spencer (Ultimate X-Men), Senior Editor Mark Paniccia, Marvel Editor In Chief Axel Alonso and more for the news you can’t miss.
-- Named on the the Top 10 graphic novels of all time by Time Magazine, Jeff Smith’s bestselling “Bone” saga is turning 20. All people “Bone” will be there alongside Smith. They will discuss the genealogy of “Bone” and swag is guaranteed. (Saturday at 3:45 p.m.)
-- Join Dark Horse Senior Managing Editor, Scott Allie, and Director of Public Relations, Jeremy Atkins, for a look at all that the publisher has on tap for the coming year. (Oct. 14, 1:30 p.m.)
-- Marvel: Women of Marvel is a panel discussion on what it’s like working as a women in the comic book world today. (Sunday, 11:15 a.m.)
-- Lucasfilm Executive Editor J.W. Rinzler (author of The Making of Star Wars) discusses his latest book--about the unsung heroes of the Star Wars movies: the production designers, set dressers, and draftsmen. (Friday at 10 45 a.m.)
-- George Lucas’s decade-in-the-making “Red Tails” will arrive in theaters on Jan. 20, 2012. Actors, visual-effects artists and one of the original Tuskegee Airman (on whom the film is based) will be on hand on to discuss the process of creating an aerial dogfight. (Saturday, 12:15 p.m., American Airlines Theater)
-- Besides playing Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill is an avid comic book collector. He created his own comic anti-hero in The Black Pearl for Dark Horse Comics and will star in the film adaptation of “New-Gen.” (Friday at 7:30 p.m. at MTV Theater and Saturday, 1:30 p.m., American Airlines Theater)
-- Chris Evans and Tom Hiddleston join forces to present “The Avengers.” The superhero team-up is the culmination of years of cinematic planning but the end product is finally on the horizon. The panel will include never-before-seen footage and even more surprise guests. (Saturday, 6:30 p.m., IGN Theater)
-- Meet the stars of Conan the Barbarian: Jason Momoa, Rose McGowan and Stephan Lang in this spotlight panel. (Sunday, 10 a.m.)
-- From the man that brought the world “Animal House,” “Blues Brothers,” “An American Werewolf in London,” and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, filmmaker John Landis will be on hand to discuss many of the monsters, aerial and nocturnal alike, to grace the silver screen. (Saturday, 3:45 p.m.)
-- The convention will offer attendees the first hands-on chance to play Activision’s “Prototype 2” (set for release on April 24, 2012), as well as the first “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive” (also to be released early next year) show matches. Two separate teams will test the game live (Friday).
-- Learn all about an amazing newly announced Marvel game for 2012 from Activision, plus Spider-Man: Edge of Time, X-Men Destiny, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, the Marvel Universe MMO, Marvel Pinball, Super Hero Squad Online, Super Hero Squad: Comic Combat (using THQ’s uDraw peripheral), and Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet for Nintendo 3DS. -- Intel Extreme Masters worldwide pro gaming league will hold their third Global Challenge of the 2011/12 season at New York Comic Con. The tournament will feature competition of Counter-Strike 1.6, League of Legends and StarCraft 2. The top two players and teams from each game will be granted slots in the World Championship tournament. A prize purse of $93,000 is available for participants.
-- “Tokyo Blade Runner” Cyberpunks and renegade replicants unite in honor of the 1983 cult science-fiction classic “Bladerunner.” (Sunday, 9 p.m. at Le Poisson Rouge)
-- “Panda Cosplay Party” Short for “costume play” cosplay is a type of performance art where participants use their outfits to represent ideas or characters. There’s no admission fee with a flyer or costume. (Saturday, 8 p.m. atPanda)
MTV Presents Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head (Saturday, 7:30).
-- Maggie Q, Lyndsy Fonseca and Shane West from The CW’s “Nikita” will be on hand to discuss the second season and watch the video presentation with the audience (Saturday, 2:45 p.m., IGN Theater)
-- The most talked-about pilot not on the Fall schedule was the Fox production of Locke & Key. After a smash-hit screening at San Diego Comic-Con that fans are still talking about, it's coming to the east coast for a one-time only screening.
-- Join the US cast of Dragon Ball Z for a very special screening and Q&A. See the timeless saga of intense action that is Dragon Ball Z as never before – in HD – and listen to the women and men who’ve lent their voices to one of the most successful anime series of all time. (Saturday, 9:15)
