Users of Nintendo’s Switch console who have, for some reason, put the game cartridges in their mouth say they taste horrible.

But there’s a good reason for the bad taste. Nintendo says the cartridges are coated with a “bittering agent.”

The nontoxic coating, which some say tastes like insecticide, is to deter young children from swallowing the postage-stamp-sized cartridges.
