WHAT’S GOOD This is a simplified version of the program that many professionals use to enhance and alter photos without the original program’s complicated menus and toolbars. It’s great for fixing photos on the fly, especially before posting them to social media. Retouching features include “liquefy,” which can push, pull, rotate, swell or reshape areas and may be used to alter facial features subtly or grotesquely. You can change a frown into a smile, swell lips or elongate jawlines, all without the help of a plastic surgeon. “Smooth” will sharpen or soften everything from skin to landscapes, while “heal and patch” can remove imperfections or unwanted objects in a photo with the flick of a finger. You can also “defocus,” or blur, part of the photo to draw attention elsewhere, lighten or darken specific areas of a shot, paint color on or desaturate color already there, and add vignettes. Photoshop Fix images can be sent directly to Photoshop CC ($9.99 a month) on your desktop to further refine them. Best of all, there are no advertisements or upgrade prompts.
WHAT’S NOT You cannot access the app without registering with Adobe (free). Although the tools are mostly intuitive, tips for using them appear only once and disappear rather quickly. To see the tip again, you must go back to the settings window and tap “Reset Tooltips.”
BOTTOM LINE This free photo fixer will turn your frown upside down.
