The Week Ahead: April 6-10

KEY EVENT: Inside the Fed. While many economists thought the Federal Reserve would lay out a path to raising interest rates at its March meeting, the central bank instead did not signal any imminent changes, explaining that "economic growth has moderated." But how close was the Fed to making a key monetary policy shift? A look at the thinking of the central bank's decision-makers comes Wednesday with the release of the Fed meeting minutes from last month's conference.

MONDAY: The Institute for Supply Management releases its March services-sector index, a look at economic activity in a wide array of nonmanufacturing businesses such as retail, restaurants and technology.

TUESDAY: Earnings from motor sports events operator International Speedway and restaurant owner Dave & Buster's Entertainment.

WEDNESDAY: Earnings from Melville industrial supplies distributor MSC Industrial Direct, Alcoa, Bed Bath & Beyond, Pier 1 Imports and Rite Aid.

THURSDAY: Jobless benefits claims for the week ended April 4 from the Labor Department. Earnings: wine and liquor distributor Constellation Brands, drugstore chain Walgreens Boots Alliance, restaurant owner Ruby Tuesday.

FRIDAY: Import and export prices for March from the Labor Department.
