The Week Ahead, June 16-20

KEY EVENT: Season finale. The last week of spring features a wave of news and events, including new data on the local jobs situation, an economic update from the U.S. Federal Reserve and a report on inflation.

MONDAY: The Federal Reserve Bank of New York publishes the June Empire State index, a survey of New York State manufacturing. Also, the Commerce Department releases May industrial production and the National Association of Home Builders posts the June survey of its members' views on the direction of the housing market.

TUESDAY: Consumer prices from the Labor Department and housing starts from the Commerce Department, both for May. Earnings: software maker Adobe Systems, La-Z-Boy.

WEDNESDAY: The Federal Reserve concludes a two-day meeting with an announcement on monetary policy and a news conference from Chair Janet Yellen. Earnings: FedEx.

THURSDAY: The state Labor Department posts Long Island jobs created in May, and the U.S. Labor Department releases claims for jobless benefits for the week ended June 14. Also, leading indicators for May from the Conference Board. Earnings: BlackBerry, supermarket owner Kroger, software maker Oracle, Rite Aid.

FRIDAY: Earnings from Olive Garden owner Darden Restaurants and CarMax.
